what size do I have?

  • Stand vertically on a piece of paper and trace your feet. Then measure the maximum length in cm and determine your UK size
  • Please do not add anything to this. Yes, your foot needs some space because the foot moves in the shoe as it rolls. This has already been taken into account in the table when converting.
  • If you have wide feet, you don't need to add anything, as almost all Jim Green shoes are already wide. Wide width EE (almost all Jim Green models). Normal width D (e.g. Shoellie, Baobab, Numzaan) .
  • Please call us if you have any doubts. Shop with peace of mind as you can exchange your size at any time.

The Boot that Puts Boots onto Rangers

50% of Rangers don’t have access to sufficient Boots and Gear
and over 40% are required to purchase their own Boots.

With the future of our wilderness areas in the hands of those with boots on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and The Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have come together to make sure this issue is addressed.

Inadequate gear for rangers leads to a low morale and effects rangers wellbeing. With Rangers being on the front line of our conservation areas, a quality pair of boots is essential for everyday tasks

We put out a survey to Rangers from Across Africa and from that pulled together various focus points as to what is needed in the ultimate all round Ranger Boot. From that we give to you the African Ranger – A Boot Designed By Rangers For Rangers

  • 3 main focus: comfort, durability and affordable price
  • 2.2 mm full grain leather for added durability
  • Double layer leather at heel and toe against increased abrasion

A Review of the African Rangers - Leather Midsole

TLDR: The African Rangers are my second pair of premium leather boots, and I would absolutely buy them again.

Dear Jim Green,

You make wonderful boots that are meant to be worn and used. The craftsmanship and durability are outstanding, and they’ve quickly become my go-to footwear for everyday use and long walks. The only minor issue I had was with the sticker included in the box—it didn’t stick properly, but that’s hardly a dealbreaker.

For those considering buying the African Rangers, here are a few insights from my experience:

I chose the Fudge leather version. On its own, the color is decent, but it truly comes to life after applying the Jim Green Leather Balm. Thanks to the beeswax in the balm, the leather takes on a beautiful light brown tone, which I personally prefer. It’s a subtle transformation that adds character to the boots.

One thing I disliked initially was the strong chemical odor when I first opened the box. It smelled heavily of adhesive. Fortunately, that smell vanished completely after the first treatment with the Leather Balm.

Regarding the break-in period: many reviews claim these boots don’t need one. In my case, it took about 20 kilometers of walking before the leather fully adapted to my feet. After that, they became incredibly comfortable.

I have very wide feet and usually need to size up with most brands (especially Sneakers). For these boots, I followed the sizing advice on Jim Green’s website, even though I already knew my Brannock size. It’s important to note that the UK sizing used by Jim Green doesn’t directly match the Brannock scale. I’d recommend trusting the manufacturer’s guide unless you plan to wear thick socks regularly.

Once broken in, the boots are perfectly fine to wear with thin socks. They’re great for everyday use and perform well on long walks across all kinds of terrain. I’ve worn them in the rain after treating them with the Leather Balm, and my feet stayed completely dry—no issues at all.

A few tips for future buyers:

- If you opt for the version with the leather midsole, consider removing the insoles occasionally. Sweat can collect underneath and keep the leather damp, which in extreme cases might lead to mold.
- Upgrading to paracord laces is worth considering. They’re gentler on the leather than standard nylon laces. I personally will probably be buying Pisgah laces in the future even though they dont have the Jim Green Green which I've grown accustomed to.
- After walking through mud or dirt, brushing the boots off helps a lot. Very little sticks to them, and they clean up easily.

In short, these boots are built to last. With a bit of care, they’ll serve you well in all conditions. Thank you for making a product that’s not only rugged and reliable but also a pleasure to wear.

Kind Regards
A very happy Customer

Great Shoe

Great Shoe. I didnt use it a lot yet, but the construction is top notch. Cant beat for the price. I needed sizing help and the support was really helpful. I went with my usual sneaker size and it worked great.

Great boots

Great boots, certainly best value I have seen. They're rugged and durable and look the part too. There was some bleeding heels involved with breaking them in, but it was just weakness exiting the body and I feel a lot stronger now.

Best bang for the buck

I wish I had pulled the trigger on these earlier. I hesitated because a lot of reviews said these are so ugly. Now, wearing them, they certainly aren’t pretty. But neither am I. They look the way they do because of the design choices that make them strong, rugged, resilient, useful, tough. And scratching them? It’s only going make them look better.
And I’d rather have that than a boot that’s acting tough.
I feel I could walk through anything in these.

Bin sehr begeistert

Ich find den Look total genial. Die Schuhe fallen groß aus, ich hab normal 42 und hier 41 gewählt, und so passen sie gut. Einlaufen dauert ein bisschen, aber das ist bei guten Lederschuhen ja normal.
