what size do I have?

  • Stand vertically on a piece of paper and trace your feet. Then measure the maximum length in cm and determine your UK size
  • Please do not add anything to this. Yes, your foot needs some space because the foot moves in the shoe as it rolls. This has already been taken into account in the table when converting.
  • If you have wide feet, you don't need to add anything, as almost all Jim Green shoes are already wide. Wide width EE (almost all Jim Green models). Normal width D (e.g. Shoellie, Baobab, Numzaan) .
  • Please call us if you have any doubts. Shop with peace of mind as you can exchange your size at any time.

Which soles are available?

Here is an explanation of all Jim Green soles. You can find out which sole this model is supplied with in the article description.

JG Sole – This sole is our lug version and is designed for grip. It's made from real rubber and feels firm to provide stability underfoot. The JG Natural Rubber option is softer but still offers the same properties. Best suited for loose gravel surfaces, rocky terrain, uneven terrain and challenging landscapes.

OR Sole – This sole is designed for a combination of grip, comfort and speed. This is made of real rubber and offers a softer feel for more walking comfort. Best suited for sandy areas, longer days on feet, quick hikes, urban areas. A great, lightweight hiker.

BR Sole – Our all-rounder option, this sole is designed for durability in the city and outdoors. It is made of real natural rubber and has a firm grip to provide stability under the foot. Ideal for days between the office and outdoors.

FA Sole – Our lightweight comfort option, this sole is designed for comfort and a sleeker look. It is made of real rubber and has a softer feel for comfort. Best suited for casual days in the city or light walks or camping trips

KH Sole – This sole is designed not to absorb mud and dirt during your daily activities, hence its “Flay” design. It's made from real rubber and feels firm to provide stability underfoot. Best suited for muddy soils or sandy areas.

ANV Sole - The Anvil sole is designed to mimic the feel of barefoot running on any terrain while providing additional support and protection. A sole without any reinforcement or stiffening.

TW Sole - This sole is our Tyre Wedge option and is designed for grip and comfort. It is a true rubber sole with a softer rubber compound to provide the best all-round performance.

The boot that gives the Rangers boots

Each year, hundreds of buffalo are removed from our local reserves for disease and population control measures, using everything left of the animal except for the skin. We decided that something had to be done.

We sent a skinning and salting team to a nature reserve (logistical nightmare) to collect these hides and prepare them for our tannery.

These pelts were purchased from the reserve, raising much-needed funds for a byproduct that should have been discarded.

By purchasing the skins we not only raise money for the reserve, but through the sale of the boots we also donate a pile of boots to rangers in need as part of our Boots for Rangers program.

A complete circular process from start to finish.

50% of rangers do not have access to sufficient boots and equipment
and over 40% have to buy their own boots.

Because the future of our wilderness areas rests in the hands of those on the ground, Jim Green Footwear and the Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA) have joined forces to ensure this issue is addressed.

Inadequate ranger equipment leads to low morale and affects ranger well-being. With rangers on the front lines of our conservation areas, a pair of quality boots is essential for everyday tasks

We conducted a survey of rangers from across Africa and compiled several key points of what is needed for the ultimate all-round ranger boot. From this we present to you the African Ranger – A boot designed by Rangers for Rangers

Note: Due to the extreme conditions in which African buffalo live, the leather varies from pair to pair and each boot has a unique texture and look. The product images used show the difference between what you can get.

Longer break-in period compared to the original leathers we use as African buffalo skin is very strong and robust

  • 3 main focuses: comfort, durability and affordable price
  • 2.2mm full grain leather for added durability
  • Double-layer leather on the heel and toe to prevent increased abrasion
  • Heel and toe stiffeners between the leather layer  for additional stability
  • Soft leather collar and tongue for comfort and weight reduction
  • Steel shank between insole and sole for additional support and stability
  • Single strip sewn construction, slightly resoled
  • Double stitched construction with 2.2mm braided nylon cord
  • OR Sole: Real rubber wedge sole for the best grip, comfort and speed on sandy surfaces, longer days walking, speed hikes and urban areas.
  • A softer rubber compound (Shore Hardness 55-65) ensures the Ranger stays calm as he walks through the African bush
  • Robust hooks and eyes for attaching the feet
  • Size relatively large. If you are hesitating between two sizes, take the smaller one.
  • STC Last = EE (wide fit, high and rounded toe box
  • Made in South Africa

For every 10 pairs sold, Jim Green donates one pair to a ranger
